Enjoy the pre-Christmas season to its fullest whilst staying full of energy and health: tips and tricks for raclette, fondue and co.
The pre-Christmas time is here to indulge and enjoy festive meals with friends and family. As you look forward to delicious raclette, fondue, turkey and other festive delicacies, it's important to look after your digestion too. With a few simple tips and tricks, you can ensure that your meals are not only delicious but also easier to digest. Follow our tips to keep your body full of energy and healthy whilst indulging yourself:
Before the meal
- Stay sober: Plan your feast so that you don't eat any food in the four hours beforehand. An empty stomach allows for more efficient digestion. However, you should not fast. Because that can also weaken digestive power.
- Boost your digestion: Before you sit down at the festive table, chew a fresh slice of ginger sprinkled with lemon juice and a pinch of salt. This can stimulate digestion. Alternatively, you can prepare an “Agni drink” containing fresh ginger, cumin and rock salt to aid digestion. To do this, boil 1/2 liter of water with fresh ginger, cumin and rock salt until only 1/4 liter is left.
- Exercise: A short walk or light exercise before eating can aid digestion.
- Pranayama (breathing exercises): Activate your inner energy and improve digestion through the practice of fire breathing.
During the meal
- Moderate drinking: Only drink in moderation during meals and prefer warm drinks in small sips. Avoid alcohol.
- Avoid raw foods: To avoid putting additional strain on your digestion, avoid raw salad during the festive meal.
- Spices: Season your meals generously with spices such as pepper, paprika, chili, turmeric, caraway and fennel, as these can aid digestion.
- Time: Between 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM, your digestive power is at its highest. Therefore, try to avoid raclette and similar foods in the evening.
- Stop: Stop eating before you reach the feeling of fullness, if possible.
- Special tip for raclette or fondue: Enjoy raclette and fondue, but do not combine them with meat and fish. Potatoes can also make it more difficult to break down animal proteins such as cheese.
After the meal
- Digestive break: Allow at least four hours to pass after eating before you eat your next meal. This gives your stomach enough time to digest.
By following these tips, you can not only enjoy the delicious festive meals, but also ensure that your digestion runs smoothly. Treat yourself to the best of this festive season and stay healthy and full of energy!
